Application Event – Workfront – Monitor New Issue
We’re going to start this FLO by monitoring for new Workfront issues. This means that every time a new issue is submitted in Workfront, this workflow will begin. You can customize which fields are used here to fit your needs. I’m just going to do some of the basics for now.
Workfront – Read an Object
The final Slack card is going to require the username of the person we’re sending a message to, so let’s use Workfront to gather this information. I’m first going to find the email address of the person who this new issue has been assigned to.
You could also use information from Workfront to determine a channel to send the message to, if that suits your needs more.
Slack – Search User by Email
I’m going to use the email address I found in step 2 to find the Slack username of the corresponding employee.
Again, you could replace this step with finding the corresponding channel in Slack, if that’s more useful for you.
String – Compose
Now, I want to customize the Slack message. I’m going to add a String Compose card where I can pull all the relevant info together to be sent as a message. I’ll type in a standard message and then drag fields from the Monitor New trigger that started the FLO so that the data is added into the message.
Slack – Send Slackbot Message
Here’s where the whole FLO comes together. I’m going to drag in the username from Step 3 and the message output from step 4 to complete this Slack card.
Once this step is done, you can test to make sure the FLO works by turning the FLO on, creating a new issue in Workfront, and assigning it to yourself. If it doesn’t seem to be working, fill out our contact form or email us and we’ll be happy to assist you.
